STARKVILLE, Miss. — Chalk up another preseason All-America team honor for Mississippi State senior relief ace Caleb Reed.
The right-hander from Cleveland, Miss., is a third-team selection on the 2012 Louisville Slugger TPX
Preseason All-American Team named announced Tuesday by Collegiate Baseball. Earlier this month Reed was honored as a first-team preseason All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
Reed registered 12 saves while compiling a 1.55 earned run average over 64.0 innings in 29 relief appearances in 2011. A second-team All-SEC selection, Reed finished third in the Southeastern Conference in both saves and earned run average and tallied seven of his 12 saves in conference competition en route to second-team All-SEC honors.
He played a pivotal role in MSU’s run to the championship game of the NCAA Gainesville Super Regional, earning his 12th save to preserve MSU’s shutout win over Southern Miss in the NCAA Atlanta Regional and notching a win in relief against top-ranked Florida the following weekend in Super Regional competition. State compiled a 38-25 record and finished the 2011 season with a No. 15 national ranking.
Mississippi State opens its 2012 campaign and a school-record 37-game home schedule Feb. 17-19 when the Bulldogs host first-time opponent Washington State in a three-game series at Dudy Noble Field.
